Class Lecture 2/21/12

Today at the beginning of class, we had another review session. Today we discussed the roles of the sequence, selection, and repetition structures. We also learned today that we will have a midterm next Tuesday on Chapters 1-6. The practice test is on Blackboard and this review session should help everyone have a refresher before the exam.

During the main part of the lecture, Dr. Agrawal talked more about Chapter 6. This time he discussed the switch statement more. The switch statement and the if, else, and else if statements are the same and we should be able to convert between the two. It is important to remember your syntax when using the switch statement because if you're using a character, remember to put your case statements in the form of: case 'letter'. I know that when I did Assignment #6, I messed up my syntax and my program wouldn't compile. We also wrote a program for Exercise 14 in Chapter 6 that calculated the commission that that a salesperson receives from their owner. While doing that program we learned that if a condition fails in the beginning then there is no need for the program to run any longer, which would make you put a return 0 in the if statement. Overall, today will help for the completion of the assignment that is due on Thursday.

Microsoft Office app coming to iPad?

Today, an article came out about a possible Microsoft Office application coming to the iPad. That application would include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. This app would be good for new iPad users who were on Windows systems prior to the transition. According to Daily, the users will be able to edit their documents and use the applications online as well as locally. Since Androids are not as good as Apple products, unfortunately Androids will not be receiving this app. There is no timetable for when the Microsoft Office app will go to the iPad but it is believed that it will be sometime after it goes on the tablet and runs on other Microsoft products.

  2. I do believe it is funny that I have seen so many post over the internet saying that Micosoft basically made an ipad before apple but it's was before it's time so no one really accepted it. But all and all I would like to see there concept model.

  3. I kept messing up my syntax on assignment 6 too. Also, good find on that article about microsoft office coming to the iPad. I have one, and you're right it was hard to switch over to that apple product. Mainly everything we do in college is through microsoft office, such as powerpoint, word, excel and so on. So I think this would be helpful for college students like us to use. Yall ready for the mid-term?
